Development of a Direct-Measurement Thin-Film Heat Flux Array
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new thin film heat flux array (HFA) was designed and constructed using a series of nickel/copper thermocouples deposited onto a thin Kapton® polyimide film. The HFA is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 300°C and produces signals of 40 μV/(W/cm). As a result of its thin film construction, the HFA is able to resolve heat flux signals as fast as 32 ms. Calibrations were completed to determine the gage’s output as well as its time response. In order to measure the signal from the HFA a bank of amplifiers were designed and built. The design methodology, construction techniques, calibrations, and a test case are all discussed.

Development and Evaluation of the Timeresolved Heat and Temperature Array
The development and evaluation of a differential style heat flux gauge is presented. The sensor is constructed from spot-welded foils of copper and constantan on either side of a thin Kapton® polyimide film and is capable of measuring the heat flux and surface temperature at ten locations simultaneously. Analytical modeling was performed to estimate the sensor’s sensitivity and time response. C...

متن کاملPrediction and Characterization of Dry-out Heat Flux in Micropillar Wick Structures.
Thin-film evaporation in wick structures for cooling high-performance electronic devices is attractive because it harnesses the latent heat of vaporization and does not require external pumping. However, optimizing the wick structures to increase the dry-out heat flux is challenging due to the complexities in modeling the liquid-vapor interface and the flow through the wick structures. In this ...
متن کاملInstabilities of Thin Viscous Liquid Film Flowing down a Uniformly Heated Inclined Plane
Instabilities of a thin viscous film flowing down a uniformly heated plane are investigated in this study. The heating generates a surface tension gradient that induces thermocapillary stresses on the free surface. Thus, the film is not only influenced by gravity and mean surface tension but also the thermocapillary force is acting on the free surface. Moreover, the heat transfer at the free su...
